In 2018, Royal Albert Docks opened in Beckton alongside the historic Royal Albert Dock in East London famous for its shipping trade over the last century.

Due to location and height and proximity to London City Airport (LCY) the low rise development was considered for aviation airspace protection. CEL lighting was approved for use by LCY safeguarding and the lighting systems are equipped with monitoring systems and a supporting 3hr battery backup.

RAD is equipped with ICAO compliant low intensity type B aircraft warning lighting.

Low Intensity lighting is fitted to all roof levels at the furthermost points. CEL Aviation Lights are LED based offering long lifetime and reliability. The red aviation lights are controlled and monitored by the obstruction light CSW controllers and linked in the building management system for remote monitoring.

To date no failures reported in +10 years far exceeding the minimum recommended lifetime from the LED manufacturers.

CEL aviation lighting specialists were recommended to advise, design and supply the necessary expertise and compliant products to achieve the required aviation airspace protection.
